Play therapy

Psychotherapy requires active engagement of the therapist and the person in need of help. It is quite a challenge to motivate a child to cooperate with a psychologist, primarily because the child often does not understand the problem or sees it completely different from his or her parents.

In order resolve this we use play therapy as the basic therapeutic approach when working with children. This method stems from psychodynamic theoretical framework, but also has some elements of the client-centered and cognitive behavioral therapy, which is dependent on the phase of treatment.

Various projective techniques, games, sandbox, psychodrama, drawings, family network etc. are some of the therapeutic techniques we use in working with children to encourage them to work in a way that they themselves find acceptable on the problem they are facing.

During the first few sessions with children or parents we analyze the problem and set the work plan. The therapist then presents the parent and child with the way he/she sees the problem and proposes joint work, sets goals of therapy, timeframe and therapeutic intervention. Children and their parents are actively involved in the planning and execution of work plans.

Among other things, our work with children aims to facilitate adopting desirable and acceptable ways of functioning whilst eliminating emotional suffering and symptoms of mental distress. The special focus of our work is on enabling self-actualization and personality development through learning new, more efficient and adaptable forms of thinking, behavior and emotional responses.

The Play therapy room for children is equipped with all the necessary materials and tools in accordance with standards for the use of play therapy.
