Systemic family therapy

Systematic Family Therapy is a therapeutic approach that aims to help families, i.e. its members, to identify and understand the problem they are faced with, and with the help of therapists find solutions that have not been identified before. In a system approach, the term "triangle" is commonly used in the context of describing emotional functioning or emotional dysfunction of family members. At times when family tension is growing, conflicts between two family members may arise, and if there is no capacity to absorb this tension, one or both of the family members are likely to feel uncomfortable. In such situations, to maintain and save the relationship between two close members (dyad) a third person or a party is introduced and a "triangle" occurs. The formation of this pathological triangle disturbs the structure of power in the family and determines internal relations and relationships. This is particularly noticeable when a younger member enters a coalition with an older member against the third (older) member and at the same time denies an alliance against a third person. Systematic family therapy looks at the family as any other living organism that has its past, present and future and helps family members find the optimal ways to function.
